Free Starbucks For You!

I’m done.

Not because I hate being pregnant, because I don’t. It’s actually been a very smooth process. I’d do it again.

Not because I want to wear cute clothes again, although I have lamented (maybe more than once) over the Christmas dresses adorning store racks and junk mail ads – with their cute little waist lines that I used to fit into.

And not because I’m tired of walking like an obese penguin, or seeing beached whales in my head whenever I try to roll over in the middle of the night, or limping like Quasimodo when I do get up in the morning. It’s not because for the past few days I’ve felt like this little, six-pound human is literally draining the life force out of me, or because I’m worried about how much I hate pants lately.

(Not right now, anyway, although I’ve been done for all those reasons probably twice this week in steady rotation.)

Today it’s because I want coffee.

I want to wake up in my cold house and have a cup of something hot. Tea is great, but let’s be honest: It’s flavored hot water. I want to grind coffee beans, and hear the pot gurgle, and smell the brew, and chug it straight from the pot. I’m cold. I’ve been sleepwalking for two days. I want coffee.

But I’ve held off for this long, and I’m not going to do it with just a week (hopefully) left.

That, however, is no reason you can’t have coffee.

Put a pin in that thought for a moment, and go back to Wednesday evening with me.

Our friend Matt made the first entry into the Baby Pool: December 1 or 2, 7 pounds 1 ounce. That’s his wager. So let’s open this up, and bring these two totally unrelated ideas together.

Place your bets by midnight on Monday, and two Starbucks cards will be awarded for closest date and closest weight.

If there’s a tie, we’ll do it blackjack style and say closest without going over. (Please note that the email you use in the comment form is where your card will be sent if you win.)

Some tips:

  • My official estimated due date is December 7.
  • I had an ultrasound on November 5, and they estimated him at about 5 pounds, 6 ounces.

Ready? Set. Comment!

Update: Too late! It’s getting close, and now you’re cheating. You can still leave a bet, if you like, but comments time-stamped after midnight on Monday are just for bragging rights.
